Hauraki Trail Coast to Coast

Hauraki Trail Coast to Coast

113km, 2-3 days, 2-3 nights

Hauraki Gulf to the Pacific

Cycle from Kaiaua on the Firth of Thames through to Waihi (and then a short shuttle to Waihi
Beach) to experience some of the best and most varied scenery that the Hauraki trail has to
offer.
Follow the coastline from the peaceful scenic town of Kaiaua taking in the internationally
renowned Pukorokoro Miranda  Shorebird Centre and enjoy viewing the wide variety of sea and
shorebirds before cycling alongside Mangroves through to the town of Thames – the
Gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula.
Thames offers a wide variety of accommodation, eateries and activities to make it a great
place to rest after a day in the saddle.
After Thames the trail takes you away from the coast through classic Waikato dairy farms
with views of the Kaimai and Coromandel Ranges to the town of Paeroa, world famous for
its giant L & P bottle, antique shops and river port history.
Paeroa makes for a relaxing second night stop-over, however, if you’re feeling energetic you
can continue on to Waihi via the spectacular Karangahake Gorge – rich in Mining history and with a
number of points of interest along the way – including the Windows walk, the Victoria Battery
and the Goldfields Heritage Railway.
A short shuttle from Waihi takes you to the beautiful seaside town of Waihi Beach, with
stunning sandy beaches, coastal walks and relaxing vibe – the perfect location to stay and
celebrate your coast to coast adventure.

Add in an optional
On completion of your walk you will be returned to Te Aroha (via a delicious real fruit ice
cream stop if desired) where you can stay the night and take in an optional hot mineral spa and enjoy the
many bars and eateries the town has to offer.
